How to Translate a PDF Document
There are four realistic ways to translate a PDF: a free document translator, a dedicated document-translation product, pasting the text into a chat AI, or a purpose-built long-document pipeline. They differ on layout preservation, terminology control, document length, and price.
The options at a glance
- Free document translators: fast and free, approximate layout, no terminology control.
- Dedicated document translators: better fluency, file-size and page limits, glossary support on paid plans.
- Chat AI paste: layout lost, long documents truncated silently.
- Purpose-built pipeline: preflight, register analysis, framework and glossary enforcement, sequential chunked translation, formatted export.
A scanned or image-only PDF cannot be translated by any text pipeline without OCR; honest tools reject it before charging you.
